“The thrill of co-creation lies at the heart of Kathy’s art. Her participatory approach makes abstract painting not just something to observe, but becomes a vibrant, democratic act that anyone can join in with”.

Joined Up Thinking at the Clayden Gallery, Quay Arts 17/01/24 - 20/02/24.
This work is an on-going interactive artwork that invites vitiors to take part. I have installed a site-responsive 3d painting and every weekend invite the public to Make Their Mark. People come and paint on a transparent screen and are then encouraged to take photographs. These images can be uploaded via the QR code and when the show ends, the peoples photos will remain as document.
This revolving painted mark is shown at the Clayden gallery and shows how paint can be 3d.
“I’m really delighted with your show and how you are using the space…a real buzz in the High Street”
Jan Frith, Arch Window Gallery co-director.
Arch Window installation, Ryde High Street, Ryde. October and November 2023.
This space was a self-contained window box where individual pieces of paint were assembled as a 3 dimensional painting. Passers by came and made their mark. Many had not held a brush since school, and some were reluctant but everyone has a story to tell and something different to say and in the end participants were enthused about the opportunity. Conversations continued online stimulating further debate.
Inside Out, The DepARTment, Ryde. June - July 2023
For this residency I began to think about ideas of a shared painted abstract language between myself and the people outside. As I painted inside on the glass, people would respond by painting on the glass from the outside, a good example of visual communication! The begining of PaDA ( painting as a democratic act)
“ What I loved about Kathy’s installation at The DepARTment was it was colourful and vibrant and it got the community involved.”
Sharon George, Shademakers, Director.
And Finally……playgrounds / public art ideas.
Here are a selection of images of where I imagine paint-ing can become sculpture, realised in 3 dimensional form, fed from local communities.
“Driven by a belief in the collective power of inspiration, Kathy incorporates public feedback into her artistic journey. This dynamic exchange has proven remarkably effective, culminating in truly extraordinary pieces that resonate with a wider audience”.
Tracy Mikich, Cultural Producer, Sandown, Isle of Wight.
This Time, This Place, window installation at Boojum & Snark, Sandown High Street, December - January 2023.
This was an onsite installation where I poured paint onto acetate panels and installed them along the windows of a High Street shop. The marks were designed to respond to the place and how we feel about the turning into a new year. This Time, This Place caused quite a stir in local social media and encouraged many conversations about contemporary abstract painting.
“ I think This Time, This Place has done what all good aertworks do, and have done throughout history…it has created a public reaction. When it’s gone I suspect it will remain in our minds.
Nigel George, The Common Space, Director.
